The senior principal systems biologist role is focused on the development and implementation of data-driven processes to support our drug discovery projects. Activities will include:

  • Development of novel approaches for the analysis and interpretation of functional omics data from our drug discovery programs.
  • Drive the expansion of our core discovery platform via the innovative application of cutting-edge computational techniques.
  • Mentoring of junior staff members.
  • Interaction and knowledge sharing with colleagues in biology, data science and software engineering.

The skills and experiences we value are:

  • PhD in the biological sciences with an applied computational aspect.
  • Experience in the application and implementation of computational approaches to real world problems in the domain of drug discovery.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the concepts and analysis techniques from network biology and network science, especially as applied to the investigation of the mechanistic basis of human disease.
  • Excellent technical background with demonstrated programming skills in a modern data science environment such as R.
  • Familiar with statistical data analysis techniques, machine learning, and computational optimization.
  • Practical experience dealing with a range of different data types, such as functional genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, phenotypic screening.
  • Industry experience in pharma and/or biotech companies - familiarity with biopharma industry standards and the drug discovery/development process would be an advantage.
  • Experience of project leadership/management.
  • Dissemination of analysis procedures and results, via both written and verbal communication, to non-informatics specialists will be required.
